India Fest Milwaukee Comes Back to Humboldt Park
Milwaukee, WI (Jul 22, 2013) – Vibrant costumes, classical & fusion, Bollywood music and dance, and authentic Indian cuisine come together to celebrate Indian culture on a grand scale at the free India Fest Milwaukee 2014, Saturday, Aug. 16th, in Humboldt Park, 3000 S. Howell Ave.
“There is no better way to learn about Indian culture,” said Purnima Nath, President of Spindle India, a non-profit, non-political organization and the event’s organizer and producer. “We are weaving happiness as we bring people together through collaboration. Our goal is to weave India’s colorful cultural threads into the rich multicultural tapestry of American culture.”
India Fest Milwaukee is Milwaukee’s unique outdoor festival focusing entirely on India. Launched in 2013 with thousands of people in audience dancing with the rhythm of Indian music, 100s of participants showcased their talent. Vendors showcased colorful arts, costumes, jewelry where thousands of buyers crowded to check them out. People displayed their newly decorated Henna (temporary tattoo) designs. First time celebration of India’s Independence Day in Milwaukee land where Chief of Air India, hoisted India’s tricolor flag. This year, Spindle India brings back IndiaFestMilwaukee once again to Humboldt Park. The daylong event opens at 11 a.m. with a welcome ceremony, observing 68th Independence Day of India, featuring children’s parade; flag hoisting, and patriotic songs.
Music and dance performances, a fashion show and display of Indian costumes, and renowned Indian foods will showcase the diversity of culture in the Indian states. Classical tunes to contemporary keyboard, drums, and guitar of the Bollywood style will be featured. Traditional forms of Indian classical dances, such as Bharat Natyam, with traces of temple dances, as well as the energetic Bollywood dance moves will be performed in colorful costumes. Bhangra and Giddha, popular Punjabi folk dance & a fashion show will also display the vivid colors of India’s clothing. Foods available at the festival range from dosas, similar to crepes or pancakes, to chaats, savory snacks often sold from food carts in India, to biriyanis, rice-based dishes with vegetables or chicken.
