Humboldt Park Lagoon Ice Report

Humboldt Park lagoon offers the community a beautiful outdoor environment to ice skate. However, ice maintenance is a big operation and entirely volunteer driven by the Humboldt Park Bay View Ice Skaters, now part of Humboldt Park Friends (HPF).

HPW purchased a second commercial grade snow blower for efficient clearing and preparation of the ice. Having two commercial snow blowers reduces time and number of volunteers needed each time it snows.

“This powerful new snow blower matches our current model and gives us the capability to move snow faster, with fewer people, with identical spare parts and maintenance,” stated Greg Stilin, chair of Humboldt Park Bay View Ice Skaters. “Our volunteers will be using the best snow blowers in the U.S. They’re actually made right here in Wisconsin. They help us create an ice rink at a very low cost.”

HPW also launched a new mobile, smart phone friendly, web page providing the community with current ice conditions. This ice report is updated as the Milwaukee County Parks Department tests thickness of the ice. To use the mobile web page, go towww.humboldtparkmilwaukee.org/icereport and share it to your smart phone home screen.
